Golden State Warriors v Houston Rockets- Staple Centre, San Francisco
Finally it is my turn to put pen to paper and provide our readers with an insight into our first live sporting experience on the “We’ve Dunn the World 2016” tour. And wow we could not have picked a better game. From the moment that Tim Connelly (GM of Denver Nuggets and Brother to current Sydney Kings coach Joe) emailed saying that 4 tickets have been left at the VIP entrance by his good friend Kirk Lacob (GSW Assistant GM and son of one of the owners) I knew we had hit the jackpot.
Row 12 Sidelines behind the Warriors Bench- you bloody ripper!
Although let me say getting to the venue was not the most pleasant experience- and I wont complain as much the next time I have to go to Homebush for a game. Unless you wanted to drive and get stuck in traffic the BART or train from the city is the only other way to get there and it was hot, crowded and took an eternity and you still had a good 15 minute walk from the station. Bet Warrior fans can’t wait for their new 18000 seat stadium to open in 2019.
Now to the game: Steph Curry in my opinion is going to be one of the greatest ever NBA Players. Kyran on the way there said that Steph always gets 20 points in the first quarter and being the ever critical Dad I corrected him saying its not every game and don’t expect that tonight- well 19 points, 4/5 3 Pointers in Q1 a hugging father and son didn’t care about that other single point! He is phenomenal.
His co Splash Brother Klay Thompson had a quiet night but the real highlight was from the Big Aussie Andrew Bogut. It was like he knew we were at the game and he decided that tonight he was doing it for the Dunn’s- 13 points, 11 boards, 3 steals and 6 blocks against Dwight Howard was simply outstanding. See you in Rio Bogey!!
A 15 point 1st quarter lead to the Warriors and we all thought that was game over but to the Rockets credit they came back hard, trailing by 3 at the half and then leveled the game at ¾ time.
James Harden aka Fear the Beard was knocking down some big 3s and doing his usual throwing back the head/flopping to get to the foul line at ease. Even Erin (my 9 year old daughter) began to boo him with the rest of the Warriors faithful!!
In the end though it was the Warriors bench that got the job done- coming out in the 4th quarter and opening up a 12 point lead- which eventually resulted in a 123-110 final score.
