An Old Mans Ode to Horse Riding
The last time I got on a horse I was probably twelve years old
That was when I was young, fearless and extremely bold.
Well my good wife in her wisdom decided that for Family Dunn
We will go horse riding in the extremely hot Costa Rican Sun.
An hour by shuttle through the mountains we went
And finally arrived at what resembled nothing more than a tent.
Then out cantered the horses or should I say Mules
And our guide, who smiled and thought “who are these fools”.
We got our instructions on how to hold on and steer
And at this stage as I jumped on I wished for my first beer.
Well to my surprise we all stayed on and started off slow
A two-hour trek to the waterfall here we go!
Well it wasn’t long down the road when we started to trot
That Heidi yelled out “ I can’t steer this damn animal - I forgot”
Then it was Erin our brave little Warrior who has no fears,
That all of a sudden lost confidence and broke into tears.
So our guide stops and lets the girls rest under a tree,
And so we were now down to only Kyran, the Guide and Me.
Well to my surprise Kyran was not complaining today
He grabbed a stick, hit his horse on the behind and galloped away.
Not to be outdone the old man made his horse race up the hill
Whilst bouncing uncomfortably and wishing my balls were made of steel.
It was like we were born to be jockies (and no not for our height)
For we had pace, control and there was no longer any fright.
So we made it to the waterfall and back to the girls in record time,
Kyran and I were sitting up high in the saddle and riding sublime.
So for the Dunn Boys we can say Horse-riding is in the blood
But for the Dunn Girls however the day was a complete Dudd!
